Surah Fussilat Ayat 7 Translation Tafseer

Para 24 - فَمَنْ اَظْلَمُ

سورة حم السجدة

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

41.7

الَّذِیْنَ لَا یُؤْتُوْنَ الزَّكٰوةَ وَ هُمْ بِالْاٰخِرَةِ هُمْ كٰفِرُوْنَ(7)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

those who do not give zakat[1] and disbelieve in the Hereafter.

Commentary

According to some commentators of the Quran, zakat does not refer to its common meaning here; rather it refers to belief in monotheism and saying “لَآ اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللّٰہ”. In this case, the verse would mean that the polytheists are those who do not acknowledge monotheism, and thus prevent themselves from committing polytheism. According to other commentators, the reference here to not giving zakat refers to the polytheists who did not believe in its obligation. Other exegetes understood zakat here as a reference to refinement of the inner self. Meaning, the polytheists are those who do not refine their actions by accepting faith and thus ridding their actions of polytheism.
